Pre-fabricated Trusses: Roof and Floor
The residential inspection checklist for topout/frame (pre-fabricated trusses for roof and floor) includes:
- Stamped and signed engineered truss layout plan and truss design (shop) drawings must be on jobsite, sections R802.10.2 and R106.3.1, I.R.C.
- Engineered trusses to bear manufacturer's stamp.
- Trusses to be braced/blocked to prevent rotation and provide lateral stability per truss manufacturer's specifications and per City reviewed structural details, section R802.10.3, I.R.C.
- Girder and hip master trusses to have correct number of plies per engineered roof framing plan and the engineered truss design (shop) drawing.
- Truss connection requirements (truss to girder truss, girder truss to girder truss, etc.) per the engineered roof framing plan and details.
- Truss bearing point locations (three point bearing, etc.) as noted on the engineered roof framing plan with location of bearing plate on the truss design (shop) drawing.
- No cutting, notching and/or field modifications or repairs of trusses without truss manufacturer engineer's written approval. ***Please note: Damaged trusses, including damaged and/or loose truss metal-plate-connectors, may not be used.
- Gable end truss knee bracing per structural details.
- Roof trusses shall be attached to supporting wall assemblies by connections capable of resisting uplift forces as specified on the structural details, or if accepted by the engineer of record, Table R802.11, I.R.C., may be used.
- Girder and hip master truss posting: min. (2) 2x studs, but not less than a 2x stud posting per ply of truss, unless otherwise structurally detailed.
- Floor sheathing applied per manufacturer's specifications and listing, with maximum floor framing member spacing as indexed on the floor sheathing product.
- Roof sheathing applied per manufacturer's specifications and listing, with maximum roof framing member spacing as indexed on the roof sheathing product.
- Diaphragm (roof/floor sheathing) fastening shall comply with City reviewed structural drawings.
- Diaphragm (roof/floor sheathing) lateral load transfer connection to shearwalls shall comply with City reviewed structural details.
- Prior to actual installation of roofing material, roof (truss) framing must be uniformly pre-loaded with the roofing material (dead load).
