Register for our annual Kiwanis Litchfield Park Trout Fishing Derby! A great community event happening on Saturday, January 23, 2021!
About this Event
The City of Litchfield Park and Kiwanis Club of Litchfield Park are teaming up to host our annual Trout Fishing Derby on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Tierra Verde Lake. The lake will be stocked with 750 pounds of rainbow trout for the derby. The derby is traditionally a fun family event. Age group trophies are awarded in various categories, including largest trout caught, smallest trout caught and most trout caught. There will also be opportunities to win raffle prizes.
The event is "rain or shine" and runs from 7:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. A fee of $15.00 per space will be charged to each participant or group when registering online. A fishing license is not needed to take part in the derby; however, participants must bring their own poles and bait.
COVID-19 Mitigation Plans:
In light of COVID-19, the following modifications are being taken in order to safely host the trout fishing derby under current CDC and ADHS guidelines for organized public events.
Online Registration Only - Derby registration normally begins at 6:30 a.m. at the lake. However, this year we are requiring online-only registration, so that we can track and limit the number of derby participants. We will not be offering walk-up registrations this year. Onsite registration lines are being eliminated. No overnight or pre-dawn camping allowed.
Face Coverings - All staff, volunteers and participants over 4 years old will be required to wear face coverings during the event.
Separate Fishing Sessions – In an effort to limit the amount of people that are gathered at any given time, anglers will be asked to sign up for one of two sessions.
Adults (16 & over) will fish in the first session, which is open from 7:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
Children (15 & under) will fish in the second session, which is open from 12:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. We will allow up to two adults per space during the afternoon session to supervise and assist their children while fishing, if needed.
Designated Spaces – In order to provide adequate social distancing along the lake perimeter, 10 foot spaces will be reserved for each registrant. Each space will have 6 feet between it and the spaces on each side. Within in each registrant’s 10 foot space, we will allow up to 4 people from the same family or circle of close contacts. A maximum of 4 total poles can be used within that space by the participants. Spaces will be assigned in order of registration.
Additional Mitigation Efforts– Signage will be placed along the perimeter of the lake reminding participants that social distancing and masks are required. We will also provide hand washing stations and hand sanitizing stations for use by derby participants.
