Rough Framing - Floor


The residential inspection checklist for topout/frame (rough framing for floors) includes:

  • Floor joist sizing and spacing per City reviewed drawing.
  • Floor beam(s)/ girder(s) sizing per City reviewed drawing.
  • Cutting, notching and drilling, Figure R502.8, I.R.C.
  • For lateral support to prevent rotation, provide 2x solid blocking, bands or rim joist at ends of floor joists, section R502.7, I.R.C.
  • Floor framed openings per City reviewed drawings and section R502.10, I.R.C.
  • Bearing partitions perpendicular to joist: maximum offset from the support member below – depth of joist, section R502.4, I.R.C.
  • Floor draftstopping at maximum 1,000 sq. foot of concealed floor space area, section R502.12, I.R.C.
  • Headroom above stair tread nose: minimum 6’ 8”, section R311.5.3, I.R.C.
  • Floor sheathing to be installed to manufacturer’s specifications and listing, with maximum floor member spacing as indexed on floor sheathing product.
  • Bearing ends of joists, beams and girders per section R502.6, I.R.C.
  • Unless used as a structural floor diaphragm or as detailed on City reviewed structural drawings, all floor framing fasteners shall comply with Table R602.3 (1), I.R.C.
